BIOGRAPHY

Aleksandar Nikolić was born in 1983. in Kruševac, Yugoslavia. He started his career as a stage director engaged in The Opera department of the National Theater in Belgrade from the season 2009/10. He joined the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad as a resident opera director from season 2018/19. In season 2015/16. Aleksandar Nikolić was engaged in the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. He was engaged in various national theaters in the region (Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro), as well as in the various municipal and private opera theaters in the SAD, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Israel. Aleksandar Nikolić had staged a great number of operas of both comic and tragic genres such as Faust, Aida, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Suor Angelica, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Viva la Mamma, Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, Cosi fan Tutte, Le nozze di Figaro, L’incoronazione di Poppea, Orfeo ed Euridice…

Aleksandar Nikolić received PhD in Opera directing in 2023, at the Faculty of Drama Arts in Belgrade. In addition to theater directing (Faculty of Drama Arts in Belgrade) he also studied Art history (Faculty of Philosophy, Belgrade), Interior and Stage design (Belgrade Polytechnic), and Piano and Music theory. He did his professional upgrading in Brescia (Italy), Thessaloniki (Greece) and Hanover (Germany).

From June 2015 – 2022. Aleksandar Nikolić was engaged as a professor (maitre de conferences) at the higher educational institutions in Belgrade for subjects Stage directing in opera and balletAnatomy of Libretto and Music analysis for stage directors. From the season 2016/17 he has been engaged in international masterclasses for opera singers, directors and conductors (USA, Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria, Israel, Montenegro, Serbia) intended to provide a set of tools for the interpretation of a music and verbal text in the Italian and French opera repertoire. 

From 2019. to 2023. Aleksandar Nikolić was appointed as a general manager of the municipal theater Duško Radović in Belgrade where he produced 25 stage works.

Since 2009. Aleksandar Nikolić has been actively engaged in charity work, organizing and directing donor concerts and charity galas featuring renowned Serbian opera singers and actors, raising significant funds for children and mothers affected with systemic diseases.
